General Assembly President Srgjan Kerim praised
Cuban Foreign Relations Minister Felipe Perez
Roque signing of international human rights
agreements.
In declarations released Friday, the former
foreign minister of Macedonia welcomed Cuba ó s
becoming signatory to the International Pact on
Economic, Social and Cultural Rights and the
International Pact on Civil and Political
Rights.
The Cuban foreign minister went to New York
Thursday to sign these documents, a day in which
he met with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon,
with Kerim and also with the Coordinating Board
of the Non-Aligned Movement.
Kerim reported that he and the Cuban minister
tackled fundamental subjects of the 62nd period
of the General Assembly, such as financing for
development and climate change issues, as well
as the Millennium Goals for Development to
reduce hunger and misery by 2015, and the battle
against terrorism.
The assembly spokesperson indicated that Kerim
thanked Cuba for its support to the works of the
UN organism, as well as the efforts of that
country as NAM president.
Perez Roque traveled last night to Geneva to
participate at the seventh session of the
Council of Human Rights.
