The August 20 hearing
at the US Court of Appeals 11th Circuit in
Atlanta on the case of five Cuban anti-terrorist
fighters will be another step in that tortuous
judiciary process, Cuban journalists denounced.
On the regular Cuban
roundtable TV program Monday, participants
stated that will only be a new opportunity for
the defense team to present complementary
accounts and prove anomalies in the trial.
The Five, as Antonio
Guerrero, Rene Gonzalez, Ramon Labanino, Gerardo
Hernandez and Fernando Gonzalez are universally
known, were detained and later accused in 1998
in Miami for having infiltrated terrorist groups
working there.
They were condemned
to harsh sentences ranging from 15 years to
double life imprisonment.
Panelists said that
in the August 20 hearing, the defense team and
the Attorney"s office will have only 30 minutes
to present their arguments, but deliberations
could delay several months and until one year.
This will be another
moment to denounce at the US and international
opinion contradictions of that northern
country"s justice, which on one side condemn
peace activists and on the other part, release
notorious terrorists, they said.
