DOHA • The Cuban community in Qatar will declare solidarity with the five Cuban professionals imprisoned in the US at a function being held at their embassy premises here on September 14.

The event will mark the International Day of Solidarity with the ‘Cuban Five’ to be observed all over the world from September 12 to October 8, Alejandro R Fuentes Fables, Third Secretary at the Cuban embassy told The Peninsula yesterday.

“The five young professionals were arrested in Miami where they were fighting the terrorist groups targetting Cuba,” said Fables.

"The five men were put on a manipulated trial in Miami, a completely hostile city dominated by a Cuban-origin mafia, where no fair and impartial trial was possible in keeping with the US and international laws," says a brochure being circulated as part of the campaign.

A documentary telling "the truth about the Cuban five" will be screened at the embassy premises on September 14 before invited gathering comprising members of the small Cuban community here, the diplomatic corps and the media, said the diplomat.

An exhibition focusing on the issue will be put up at the embassy premises during the campaign. (Cubaminrex-Embacuba Qatar)
