Cuba is opposed to
terrorism whatever its
source
THE people of Cuba have learned with
pain and indignation of the acts of terrorism
perpetrated on citizens of the Russian Federation,
including children, in the city of Beslan,
Republic of North Osetia, which cost the lives of
more than 330 people, among them some 150
children.
For that reason, comrade Fidel sent
a personal message to President Putin on September
4, in which he stated:
"We have been attentively following
with indignation the recent events linked to acts
of violence and terror against children, teachers
and other citizens in the city of Beslan. There is
no reason whatsoever that can justify the
realization of such repugnant acts in any part of
the world. That prompts our most resolute
condemnation and rejection.
"In these painful circumstances, I
transmit our heartfelt condolences and solidary
support to the people of Russia and, in
particular, to the families of the victims of
these atrocious acts."
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs
wishes to reiterate Cuba’s most resolute
condemnation of this unjustifiable act of
terrorism. At this tragic moment, the Cuban
government and people affirm their solidarity with
and support for the sister people of the Russian
Federation and, especially, to the families of the
victims of this atrocious attack.
The Republic of Cuba, which has been
the victim of the most monstrous terrorist acts
for more than 45 years, is firmly opposed to
terrorism, whatever its source, and rejects any
attempt to impose double meanings on an issue so
sensitive for all of humanity.
