ON this Monday, President Fidel Castro toured
the area of Ras Laffan, one of the largest
centers in the world for the production of
natural gas, as part of his visit to the state
of Qatar, where he arrived on Sunday from
Malaysia.
On his arrival for a first official visit to the
Persian Gulf emirate, the Cuban leader met with
His Highness Sheik Hamad bin Kalifa Al-Thani,
the emir of Qatar, who visited the island last
September.
Fidel was additionally welcomed at the air
terminal by His Highness Sheik Jassem bin Hamad
Al-Thani, successor to the crown; Sheik Abdullah
bin Kalifa Al-Thani, president of the Council of
Ministers; Sheik Mohammad bin Kalifa Al-Thani,
vice president of the Council of Ministers; the
president of the Consultative Council; and Jorge
León Cruz, Cuban ambassador to Qatar, who is
also taking part in the delegation headed by
Fidel.
This Monday sees the start of official talks in
the Emir’s Offices, led by both leaders.
