The Revolutionary Government of the Republic of
Cuba is following with extreme concern the
events taking place in the sister Republic of
Bolivia and the political, economic and media
pressure being brought to bear on the government
of President Evo Morales and threatening the
country’s integrity.
Cuba condemns the intervention of the United
States government and reiterates that the
situation created in Bolivia should be resolved
by the Bolivian people themselves, in strict
adherence to the principles of sovereignty,
independence and self-determination.
Bolivia’s constitutional order and territorial
integrity should be respected.
Cuba urges continental solidarity, inasmuch as
the events that are exposing Bolivia to a
dangerous escalation of violence are also
threatening the peace and security of the
continent, especially South America, which will
only serve the enemies of regional integration.
As is known, Cubans are working in cooperation
in Bolivia’s nine departments, and are totally
and exclusively dedicated to promoting health
and education programs to benefit that sister
nation.
By yesterday, September 12, the Cuban Medical
Brigade had reached its 17 millionth
consultation.
According to the most recently reported news,
225 of the country’s 327 municipalities have
attained the category of illiteracy-free. At
this time, 664,000 Bolivians have learned how to
read and write, and by the end of this year, the
anticipated goal of 327 municipalities in this
category should be reached, thanks to the
cooperation of Venezuelans and Cubans.
Cuba reiterates its will to continue cooperating
selflessly, with full respect for the principle
of non-intervention in Bolivia’s internal
affairs, as long as the Bolivian government and
people decide for it to be that way.
We are satisfied by the news that has been
arriving about the progress of events at this
time, the reestablishment of peace in the
department of Pando, the continuation of a
dialogue and compliance with the decisions of
President Evo Morales.
The Revolutionary Government of the Republic of
Cuba reiterates its firmest support for the
legitimate government of comrade Evo Morales,
elected and ratified by a broad majority, and
its solidarity with the sister Bolivian people.
