HAVANA: HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani will meet Cuban President Raul Castro today to discuss plans to build hotels here and for a new Qatari hospital to be staffed by Cuban doctors, a Havana newspaper said yesterday.

The talks come after the two countries have “signed important agreements on co-operation in the areas of health and tourism, among others,” said a report in the official daily Granma.

Under one accord, a new general hospital to be entirely staffed by Cuban specialists is to open in the town of Dukhan, 80km west of Doha.

The other agreement sets out the creation of the first joint venture between Grupo Hotelero Wider Caribbean, Cuba, and Qatari Diar to build hotels on the Caribbean island.
